Don't go alone too this hospital. I walked in with a broken leg wrapped in a brace. Looked for a wheel chair at the entrance and there was nothing but chairs that required they be pushed by a second person. I was forced to walk all over the hospital enduring pain the entire time. Then I was cornered in an elevator by hospital security who proceeded to laugh at me and ridicule my clothing. Finally when I met the doctor he was abrupt and rushed and attempted to refuse to issue a medical document I am required to submit to EI verifying my injury. Do yourself a favour and never go alone to this hospital and preferably have your lawyer accompany you to ensure you get the treatment your are legally deserving of.

My 7 year old son was sent here from baieverte hospital because a fire work hit him in the eye. He was released the same day he was admitted. The doctor refused to send my son to James way or IWK. Gander had no children doctor or eye doctor. The doctor put him under while he had an ammonia, they dropped the ultrasound on he's head and cut he's head open. The doctor didn't use the proper ultrasound for an eye he used a pregnancy ultrasound. We were given pink eye meds and told to come back in 2 and half weeks for aCheck up. While my son had yellow thick liquid coming out of he's eye. We admittly left for the ferry and came to nova Scotia. The cape Breton hospital admitted my son for 8 days. He was given multiple medications and he was on 3 strong antibiotics and had to have blood work done around the clock. Because gander released my son with several sever bacterial infections behind his eye. The infectionade he's rectna weak and had to have emergency eye surgery 4 months after because of the untreated severe bacterial infections he had while he was in gander with zero treatment for the infection. Again gander refused my son any antibiotics for he's eye or even when they put him under to cut he's eye lid to reduce the swelling and I like to add me som had to tell the doctor to wear gloves because the doctor was bare hands on he's eye. After all this nfld gave us a beautiful 1200$ ambulance bill for sending him from baieverte hospital to gander hospital after the baieverte hospital told us there no ambulance fees from hospital to hospital. The doctors in Cape Breton regional hospital told me if I would of waited and did the check up in 2 and weeks that gander doctor said. MY SON WOULD OF BEEN DEAD FORM THE BACTERIAL INFECTIONS IN HES EYE WHICH GANDER REFUSED TO GIVE HIM ANY ANTIBIOTICS.

Today was the biggest waste of time that could have been way more better had I not gone to this hospital. It took twenty minutes to check in and get a xray which I won’t complain about. However? The almost six hours of waiting to even hear the results is the inconvenience. Watching numerous people come in and out, getting taken care of. While I sat there. For hours. Just waiting for a picture to be looked at. And when we finally got in, it was just bruising. If I knew being a doctor was taking six hours to look at a picture, god, I would’ve chosen that as my job. My uneducated self is clearly qualified enough to do so. I generally respect healthcare workers however this was insanely ridiculous. Will not be back unless I’m dying, but even then I might be dead before I find out it’s about to happen.

I have never seen such a dirty hospital. The bathroom at the emerg was so disgusting, dried pee on the toilet seat and the floor was covered in it as well and was sticky. I went in with a tensor on my foot and a slipper and the floor was so dirty I had to buy new , I only put it on the floor I wasn't walking with it.

Staff are caring and everything is good, but in emergency sometimes we need to stay more than 6 ,7 hours. It's sad and when patients come in the evening they will lost nowhere when time goes until 12 midnight or more. This is very sad.
